Darren loved his family, his country and his community. He chose to serve his country by joining the U.S. Army in 2012 and serving in Afghanistan. During his tour of duty, he was a Squad Leader and earned various U.S. Army Medals and Ribbons as well as a NATO (North American Treaty Organization) Medal.
He continued his life’s calling as a Servant Leader by graduating from the Detroit Police Department Academy in November 2016. Before his End of Watch, Darren was awarded the Purple Heart and the Medal of Valor, the highest honor that one can receive as a Police Officer. Despite all of his many medals, honors and accolades, his most cherished life accomplishment was being a remarkable father to his beloved daughter, Nyla Reneé Weathers.
